Three Core MV Cables have stranded compacted circular copper or aluminium conductors according to IEC 60228 class 2 / VDE 0276 class 2 / VDE 0295 HD 383. All internal interstices of the conductor are filled with water blocking compound to prevent ingress of water through conductor during storage, handling, installation and operation of the cable. Insulation is of extruded XLPE compound type 2XI1 according to DIN VDE 0207 part 22 and HD 620.1 with high degree of cross-linking, free from contaminants, air voids and heat resistant by dry cured process. The standard is DIN VDE 0276 Part 620-622, HD 620 S1. They are designed for distribution of electrical power with nominal voltage 3.6/6.6KV to 19/33KV and frequency 50Hz. They are suitable for installation mostly in power supply stations, indoors and in cable ducts, outdoors, underground and in water, as well as on cable trays for industries, switchboards and power stations.

Q: What role does the conductor water-blocking structure of Three Core MV Cables play during installation and operation?

A: All internal interstices of the conductor are filled with water blocking compound to prevent ingress of water through the conductor during storage, handling, installation and operation of the cable. If the conductor is not water-blocked, moisture may penetrate longitudinally along the strand interstices to joints or terminations, causing insulation dampness.

A: The dry curing process does not use water or steam as the heating medium during cross-linking, so the insulation layer contains no moisture or air voids, has a high degree of cross-linking, and offers more stable insulation performance. Q: What electrical tests are required after installation of this cable?

A: After installation, insulation resistance measurement and DC withstand voltage tests should be carried out. The test voltage is determined according to the cable rated voltage and standard requirements. For XLPE insulated cables, the space charge effect should be considered in DC withstand voltage tests, and the cable should be fully discharged after the test. The specific test items shall follow the applicable standard and the project technical specification.
