All Aluminum Alloy Conductor consists of aluminum alloy wires concentrically stranded. Its construction and appearance are similar to 1350 aluminum alloy grade conductors, and it has greater resistance to abrasion than conductors of 1350 aluminum alloy. The conductor uses magnesium-silicon type heat-treatable aluminum alloy, with electrical and mechanical properties within the values suggested by the relevant standard. The alloy has higher strength but lower conductivity than pure aluminum. Being lighter, alloy conductors can sometimes be used to advantage in place of more conventional ACSR; with lower breaking loads than ACSR, their use becomes particularly favorable when ice and wind loads are low.
