PVC Insulated Unarmoured Cable has copper or aluminium conductors, round stranded or shaped, Class 2 to IEC 60228, BS EN 60228. The insulation is PVC insulation.They are suitable for installation indoors and outdoors, in cable ducts, under ground, in power and switching stations, local energy distributions, industrial plants, where there is no risk of mechanical damage. Two, three or four insulated conductors are laid-up together with non-hygroscopic fillers and the assembly is bedded with an extruded layer of PVC. In case of non-armoured cables, this layer may be omitted.

A: The long-term allowable working temperature of PVC insulation is typically 70°C. Under short-circuit conditions (maximum duration not exceeding 5 seconds), the maximum allowable conductor temperature can reach 160°C. If the actual operating temperature may exceed 70°C, XLPE insulated cable should be selected instead.

A: The unarmoured construction means the cable has limited protection against external mechanical damage. During installation, avoid direct friction with rough ground or sharp edges. When passing through conduits, the conduit opening should be smooth or fitted with a protective sleeve. In exposed areas subject to impact or compression, additional protection such as metal conduit or enclosed trunking is recommended.

A: The bending radius of unarmoured cable is generally required to be no less than 15 times the cable outer diameter. Excessive bending can damage the insulation layer. Suitable bending tools or pre-formed bends should be used during installation to avoid dents or flattening.
