XLPE Armoured Cable uses XLPE insulation with a thickness as per IEC 60502 or BS 5467, rated for 90°C continuous operation. The armour consists of aluminium, galvanized steel or steel wires applied helically over the inner covering as per IEC 60502-1. Double aluminium/steel tapes and copper/tinned copper wire armour can also be manufactured upon request. The conductor is plain or metal-coated annealed copper or plain aluminium or aluminium alloy, Class 1 or Class 2, or Class 5 of plain or metal-coated copper in accordance with IEC 60228. Outer sheath is extruded PVC Type ST1/ST2 as per IEC 60502-1. Polyethylene type ST3/ST7, halogen free compound ST8, polychloroprene, chlorosulfonated polyethylene or similar polymers, type SE1 are also available on request.

Q: How should the armour of XLPE Armoured Cable be treated at joints?

A: At joints, the armour should be stripped back to the designed length. Both ends of the armour shall be connected to earth according to the applicable code, and the cross-section of the earth conductor shall be determined by the system short-circuit capacity. The armour shall not be used as the sole earth path and shall be reliably connected to the earthing system.

Q: What are the characteristics of the XLPE insulation of this cable under long-term high-temperature operation?

A: The long-term allowable working temperature of XLPE insulation is 90°C. Compared with PVC insulation, XLPE is less prone to softening and deformation at high temperatures, and its insulation resistance decreases more slowly. The maximum short-circuit temperature can reach 250°C.

Q: What should be noted for the outer sheath of this cable during direct burial installation?

A: During direct burial, avoid scratching the outer sheath on stones or sharp objects. Backfill soil should be screened to prevent hard objects from coming into direct contact with the cable surface.
