Poly ACSR Wire is concentrically stranded according to ASTM B 232, covered with weather resistant black polyethylene compound. The insulation is PE insulated, 75°C.
Q: How is the steel core of Poly ACSR Wire handled at joints?
A: The steel core carries the mechanical load. At joints, the steel core should be crimped separately according to ACSR procedures, using a steel core crimp sleeve and die. The full tension shall not be borne solely by the aluminum wire crimp. The covering should be stripped cleanly at the joint, and corrosion protection and sealing should be applied as required after crimping.
Q: What is the difference in mechanical performance between this product and Poly AAC in the same series?
A: Poly ACSR Wire contains a steel core, so its mechanical strength is higher than that of Poly AAC at the same cross-section. In overhead distribution lines requiring longer spans or higher tension, Poly ACSR offers more stable sag and tension performance. Poly AAC is suitable for applications where mechanical strength requirements are not high.
Q: Does the covering of this product act as a barrier between the steel core and the aluminum wires?
A: The covering only wraps the outer layer of the stranded conductor and does not enter between the steel core and the aluminum wires. The contact surface between the steel core and the aluminum wires is handled according to the conventional ACSR structure. The coating on the steel core provides corrosion protection, while the covering mainly provides external weather protection.
